Join us on this online water gilding workshop.  Water gilding is a traditional and highly skilled technique used for the gilding of icons. During this workshop students will learn all the stages of water gilding technique using 24 carat gold leaf. Beginning with the preparation of the board which is done by applying linen then covering with many layers of gesso. The last stage of the process is applying the clay bole and finally burnishing the gold with an agate stone which results in gold that is smooth and shines like a mirror, obtaining a brilliant and very impressive effect.

This is a complete course, during which you will learn all the techniques of the high skilled gilding technique which is called water gilding.

The online workshop is recorded as a video of approximately 2 hours duration.

This workshop is not scheduled at a specific time and date.

Students will be able to watch the video on their own time, their own schedule and at their own pace.

Because of the workshop format as a pre-recorded video, my explanations will be extremely detailed.

This online class will be taught in a very clear and concrete manner.

Through the pre-recorded video, students will be guided by a highly experienced iconographer.

The course is divided into a number of small individual steps:  I explain each step and then follow up with a detailed demonstration of all the techniques for that step.

Upon registering, each student will have lifetime access to all teaching materials.

This is a complete course, during which you will learn the technique of water gilding.

Specifically, students learn how to prepare the board with jesso using traditional materials, (rabbit skin glue, chalk and zinc white.)

How to make and apply the clay bole.

How to gild the icon using 24 carats gold leaf.

How to burnish the gold leaf using agate burnisher.
